Run before the Rain!
Wanted to get out this morning before the promised rain hit…so after many delays, including trips to the bathroom, drove to the nearest Centennial Trail parking lot. Wanted to do about 6 miles and decided to do 3 miles in one direction, come back to the car, and then do 3 miles in the other direction. This way I could take my cell phone instead of carrying water (as I was expecting a call), and I left a large bottle of Propel in the car.
It felt like I needed another pit stop, although I had just gone before leaving, but I thought I would try to get some running in first. After the first quarter mile, I was cruising at a pretty good pace; then at about one mile, my phone started ringing. I immediately dropped to a walk and kept walking while fishing my phone out. By the time I answered, I didn’t have much trouble talking normally. It was a counselor that I’d left a message with yesterday. I decided to keep walking rather than stopping during the conversation. When finished, I picked up the pace again. It was breezy with a few gusts and sprinkles of rain. I got “conked” twice by a large leaf!
When I returned to the car, I really felt the need of a pit stop, so reluctantly, after drinking some Propel, I made a trip to the stinky porta-potty. When finished, I turned on my Garmin again, and went north to the main road and hit the “walk” button for the crosswalk. I decided to go slightly over 1-1/2 miles before turning around. Getting toward Mile 4, my left groin started to complain. I still managed to eke out a decent pace going downhill, but after I turned around to go back uphill, I had a hard time as my left groin/adductor not only hurt, but didn’t want to work too well. So in the last 1-1/2 mile stretch, my heart beat dropped way down, as I just couldn’t move fast enough. Oh, well, it was a great cool-down! Also, it was raining pretty steadily, but I didn’t get too wet as I was dressed in my water-resistant outfit.
